Tilt Brush VR: A Magic in your Hand

Virtual Reality has given rise to many new aspects of 3D art and design which were previously not possible. 3D artists had to spend hours trying to improvise a 3D painting by using no especial aid but traditional input devices like mouse, keyboard, and touchpad or graphic pad in some case. 3D designing software like 3D Studio Max, Maya, 3D CAD, and Zbrush (yes, Autodesk rules 3D arena) do their best to facilitate 3D artists, but there are still a lot of gaps to be filled. Worry no more, Tilt Brush comes to the rescue!

What is Tilt Brush? It is a 3D art creation program for VR headsets and is available for free on all HTC Vive VR Headset offers, including pre-orders. If you didn’t know, Tilt Brush is owned by Google and realized unexplored territories of 3D designing. The program’s realistic rendering is an impressive deal given the novel nature VR technology itself.

Tilt Brush

Tilt Brush is an all out intuitive virtual reality experience that is free of any labels. It is not for 3D artists, it is for everyone… to create crazy things. If you haven’t seen the demos, Tilt Brush is something that you would allow your kids to play with, but be careful because HTC Vive experience could be nauseating for kids so don’t let them play with it forever.

How Tilt Brush Works?

Tilt Brush from user perspective

The program uses HTC Vive joysticks, where one joystick becomes your brush while the other joystick carries the pallet in the virtual environment with different painting and coloring tools. You draw and sculpt in 3D space with a dark background, it almost feels like standing in a void or in a ‘Black Hole.’ The best thing about Tilt Brush is that it is very user-friendly and easy to use. You can easily teach it to your kids and let them carve out their art on an invisible 3D canvass. Children absolutely love it because drawing with Tilt Brush is better than any kind of gaming.

What can you draw with Tilt Brush?

The sky is the limit, draw anything you like. You can create trees, houses, people, abstract art or whatever comes to your mind because anything you create will be unique. There is a variety of brushes that not just paint solid fills but colorful glowing and sparkling trails as well. Paint stars, leaves, glowing circles, shimmering particles, it is completely breathtaking and looks much better than it sounds.

Sharing your 3D art with Tilt Brush

Sharing has to be the best thing about Tilt Brush. You can create a video of your fantastic art piece and share it on YouTube. You can also share the 3D drawing to other HTC Vive owners, who will be able to walk around your artistic piece and explore it from all dimensions, furthermore, they will be able to edit and modify it as well.

With HTC Vive and Tilt Brush, you’d need nothing more but some lonely time to unleash the naughty child in you. The virtual reality drawing experience feels like painting and dancing at the same time. The Tilt Brush experience is magical and what’s more amazing is magic that you create with it.
