Building an artificial city on Earth with the environment of Mars is the key to progressing in the field of Space Technology and Space populating.
As space technology continues to have a huge impact on technology of this year, United Arab Emirates are taking one huge step. This multi-million dollar project is something that will probably take a giant step for mankind, as Neil Armstrong said. Now, almost 50 years from the legendary moon landing, we take a huge step, but here, on Earth.
As the Mars settlement may become a reality in the next 100 years, UAE government has come to an idea that Martian city should be created here on Earth, so people can be familiarized with the harsh conditions up there on our neighboring planet.
This city would simulate Mars conditions to the fullest, and the city will cover around 1.9 million square feet, and the budget for this project is amazing 140 million US Dollars. This will boost our technology and knowledge required to go on to Mars and settle ourselves if that gets proven to be possible in those kinds of conditions.
The city will be a home to labs that would mimic Mars terrain, and that will be possible with the technology of printing in three dimensions as well as radiation insulation. There will be many tests that will be conducted in this city, including agriculture and water testing, as well as food testing, energy and answering the question which are the renewable sources that will be possible to put on the surface on Mars so we can have the life up there.
As it is tweeted recently, Prime Minister of UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said that this is “an extraordinary national project.”

The United Arab Emirates want to establish a human colony on the Mars (Red Planet) by the end of the year 2117. That is the final goal – seeking for newer and better technologies, that are more reliable than those we have today so we can have safe and secure landings on Mars, as well as establishing some kind of population, life, water and our colonies up there on the Red Planet.
This is a huge benefit for the mankind because there will be a lot of new things we will find out about Mars right here on Earth, and investing in this project is the long-term support for our mankind. UAE Prime Minister said, UAE wants to create a passion and leadership in science, and by making these kinds of contributions, people can see them as an innovative solution provider for many of the global challenges right now.
There is not much known about the deadline for this project at the moment, but when the city starts living, UAE will be the ones that will conduct experiments in this environment for one year. This experience will provide insight into sustaining life in other, harsh and not so known environment of our solar system, not only the Red Planet.
