Future of Internet Searching: Search Box gets 2027 Ultimatum

When considering the topic in discussion, we have to understand that the future of internet searching depends on the behavior of search engines and people’s choice to accept that behavior. The search box was anything but smart until the search giant Google came into the scene and after nearly 2 decades of evolution, Google now efficiently understands not only your words but your pictures and voices as well.

Predicting the future of internet searching, Microsoft researchers have prophesized the end of search box by 2027.  As the internet search is getting smarter, people don’t have to use their fingers to type anymore. Drag and drop a picture over Google search and you’ll get the information about its origins, and how many web pages are using it; the new feature even lets you save the images for viewing later.

Microsoft researchers also admit they “have been lost the search box war to Google,” but they go on to say further that the search box may not be able to keep up with the evolution of internet searching. That’s because about 20% of Google searches on smartphones are already using voice command in comparison to the input box. People prefer speaking to ask questions instead of typing, and our combined preferences are shaping the future of internet searching.

Future of Internet Searching depends on usage of voice search

Now that we all recognize that Google is the undefeated champion in the search arena and future of internet search rests with Google’s strategy to pick up the growing voice trend search, let’s have a look at how the future of internet searching depends on smart virtual assistants like Google Assistant, Apple Siri, Windows Cortana, Amazon Alexa and the newcomer Microsoft HomeHub.

Smartness of the AI assistants is crucial to the success of any company and while Google’s DeepMind is really doing amazing things, no one wants to lag behind in the promising future tech. Over the years, voice translation technology is going to transform exponentially, text-to-speech software are going to swell in progress, and like there’s a vast pool of words and sentences over the internet, YouTube, and similar channels would serve as a huge source of human’s audio information.

However, internet searching depends on more on search keywords than any arbitrary text, which means internet search engines and AI assistants would need keywords in the form of voice rather than text. People’s contribution is going to play a huge role in collecting the voice data so the search engines can index the results according and populate the search result page with related contents.

As the use of the search box will be reduced, internet companies and search industry would be compelled to work on the improvement of voice search features in mobile apps and desktop versions. Microsoft’s 2027 ultimatum to the search box may not be accurate, but current data does suggest that it could happen in the next two decades, if not the next one.

The future of internet searching ultimately relies on people’s choices, increased used of smartphones and smart home devices like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. By 2027, we might be able to talk to our voices, cars, computers, VR headsets, and even drones. Possibilities are limitless.
