Facebook Messenger leaping towards becoming the world’s most used audio and video calling app. Reportedly, it 300M users out of the total 1B use the app for audio and video calling, making the most popular call maker next to Skype.
In a recent report by TechCrunch, the head of Facebook Messenger David Marcus announced that the app is now entertaining 300 million monthly users. Comparatively, this is the total number of Skype users from both PC and smartphone platform.
The success of Facebook Messenger lies in the fact that all the contacts are shipped from Facebook, which makes it preferable and easily accessible for the over 1.72 billion Facebook users. So instead of switching to some other audio and video calling app, it does make sense that most people prefer Facebook’s native app.

Furthermore, the app boasts technology to support high bandwidth transmissions. “There’s a new paradigm when we think of real-time communications. We had to catch up when we didn’t have voice and video conversations… Apps that are supposed to do just that are much smaller than that,” Marcus told TechCrunch reporter.
It is also worth noticing that while Skype has been around for a longer time, Facebook Messenger is a nascent app which gained multi-million user base in less than a week within its launch. Although, the social media company hasn’t monetized the app yet, but it is estimated that it could return a huge profit of even low-frequency ads are displayed on it.
