Moto Z vs. Moto Z Force: Similarities, Difference, Specs, More

Lenovo’s Moto Z and Moto Z Force are finally out with latest android version Nougat. If you are one among the enthusiasts who wish to buy one of them, you would want to know what’s the difference between the two modular phones and which one is more suitable for you.

Moto Z modular series by Lenovo offers different snap-on modules that make them stand apart from the traditional smartphone. If you want a greater inside into modular phones, you should first read about the emerging modular phone technology and also consider the competition as Fairphone 2. And if you are wondering what’s the rank of Moto X Pure and Moto X Style in this arena, let’s just say the old king is dead, long live the king.

Getting back to which Lenovo modular phone is best for you, let’s take on the MotoZ vs. Moto Z Force features one by one.

Moto Z vs. Moto Z Force: What’s not different?

Hardware:

Both Moto Z phones actually have a lot in common than what they have not. This includes the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (2.2GHz  quad-core) for faster performance, 4GB RAM, screen resolution, built-in 32GB storage with microSD support expandable up to 2TB, Android 6.0.1, Bluetooth 4.1.

Sensors:

All the sensors are also the same that include compass/magnetometer, proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and gyroscope.

Moto Mods:

Most importantly Moto Mods, which are universal and can be shared between the two modular phones. Moreover, you don’t have to buy new modules for the new phones in series; the Moto Mods will travel along with you.

Available Moto Mods include beautiful backcovers ($13), powerful speaker ($80) with supportive stand, and a high-tech Moto Z projector ($300). These mods are surely pricey, but at least they are available as the Lenovo phones have launched because people were quite disappointed by LG G5 which failed to deliver more modules even after so much time since it came to the market.

It is also worth noticing that Lenovo is offering a one million dollar price to the developer who will create the best Moto Z module by March 31, 2017. The reward is meant to motivate developers to create more Moto Mods. For us, it only means there will be more modules in the future.

Audio Jack and Android:

Initially, Moto Z and Moto Z Force offered android 5.0 and lacked an audio jack, instead, a USB Type-C connector was offered for Bluetooth headsets. However, as the android Nougat was released, the phone maker quickly switched to the latest android version and also provided rolled out headphone jack because Lenovo soon realized their absence was a big mistake.

Body and Material:

The latest Moto Z phones are molded from military aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel, which have been artfully wrapped around their innards so they don’t look bad. To be more precise, they have done a lot better modularity job without compromising the boldness of the design, which gives them a good mark over LG G5. Not to mention the wide variety of color options!

Design difference

There is striking design similarity between the two Moto Z phones, so much so that you almost miss out that the Force is visibly thicker and actually larger than the standard edition. Next dissimilarity you will notice when you pick up the both phones at the same time; the weight.

The standard Z phone measures 153.3X75.3X5.19mm and weighs 136g. In comparison, the Z Force has larger dimensions at 155.9X75.8X6.99mm and 19 grams heavier.

Screen Difference

There is no winner when it comes to screen size. Both phones feature 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 4k resolution (2560X1440 pixels = 534ppi). However, the strength of the screen protector is different for Moto Z and Moto Z Force. The former has the latest Gorilla Glass 5, while the later offers Moto’s ShatterShield display with a good long guarantee that it won’t shatter for years. This is unbelievably a solid offer.

Battery Life

The standard Moto Z comes with a 2600mAh battery, which is why it is slimmer too. On the other hand, the Z Force has been bestowed with a powerful 3500mAh firepower that can more than enough to last the entire day, the official claim by Lenovo is 40 hours which is yet to be fully tested. Alongside powerful batteries, both Moto Z modular phones have TurboPower charging that can charge their batteries to 100% within 30 minutes.

Moto Z vs Moto Z Force: Better Camera

Both high-tech phones offer a 5MP front camera with a bright LED flash for clearer selfies, however, on the backside there had to be a bias in their photoshoot capabilities. For example, the Moto Z deals you a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization and laser autofocus. In comparison, the Moto Z Force doesn’t settle for any less megapixels than wholesome 21, additionally offering OIS and laser autofocus along with phase detection autofocus that its factory-mate doesn’t have.

Moto Z vs Moto Z Force: The Final Verdict

Mozo Z vs. Moto Z Force Final verdict

I think it was clear to you from the beginning the beginning that Moto Z Force is a better offer, what you needed to know is how much better. If the difference in the features is more than the difference in the prices of Moto Z phones, than you have more less reasons to buy Moto Z standard offer.

MOTO Z-DROID 32 GB $624
Moto Z Force Droid 32 GB $720
Moto Z-Droid 64 GB $674
Moto Z Force Droid 64 GB $770

So given that Moto Z force there is only a $84 more expensive than Moto Z, it is clear that if you are buying standard $624 versions along with a $80 speaker, you better get the better phone and wait for the next eighty dollars to buy that speaker Moto Mod.

So the battle between Moto Z vs. Moto Z Force not a tie nor a complete win. Now it is up to you to decide whether a 13% difference in their prices is too much to consider or not. Both Lenovo phones will hit the stores around the globe on September 2016, but the Verizon offer is already selling hot.
