The Most Exciting Cars And Concepts Of The 2016 Geneva Motor Show

Geneva motor show has always been full of innovation, excitement, and luxury and this year wasn’t much different. Many bold new concepts, innovation in the field of electric cars and a couple of high-end cars that only a chosen handful will be able to drive proved that Geneva motor show is still the biggest car show in the world. We chose the most interesting cars from the show, some are fast, some are smart, but all of them are pretty exciting. Without further ado, let us reveal our list of Geneva 2016 most exciting cars.

Bugatti Chiron

Bugatti Chiron Geneva 2016

Probably the most exciting reveal of this year’s show was Chiron. The successor to the (now) legendary Veyron, Chiron can be called a worthy successor to the throne of the king of hypercars. Incredible power, consisting out of 1500 horsepower 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 engine will take the car to a max speed of 261mph (420km/h), a tiny bit slower than the Veyron Super Sport, but a thing to admire to anyway. You should know that the car actually has an electronic speed limiter, so Chiron could theoretically, without it, reach around 285mph (460km/h!) making Chiron a proper “legal rocket car.”

Price? A mere $3.6 million. And even if you have that sort of money in your hands there will only 500 Chirons made and third of them are already reserved. The outer body is made completely out of carbon fiber, the car weighs almost two tons (1995kg), the interior is plush as it can be, with tailor-made cockpit, and a luxury dashboard. A high-end hypercar that only a handful of people will drive.

Koenigsegg Regera

Koenigsegg Regera Geneva 2016

Bugatti’s main competitor will be the new beast from Sweden, Regera. It’s lighter and more powerful than Chiron, with many more high-tech goodies in the form of fully robotized body system (as it reads on the Koenigsegg’s website “The spectacle to open and close the entire car simultaneously from the remote or smartphone, truly turns the Regera into a transformer.”), a 800V battery and a total power from the electric output equivalent to 800 horsepower and a with a “clutch-slip-mechanism” Direct Drive transmission system. Oh, and it can hit 250mph (400km/h) in 20 seconds. Nice, right?

Regera will come with Apple CarPlay, it is extremely high-tech and will feature “The World’s First Fully Foldable, Active, Top-Mounted Rear Wing”, a rear wing that can completely subtract and hide into body work. A truly incredible machine.

Aston Martin DB11

Aston Martin DB11 Geneva 2016

13 years have passed since the iconic DB9 was revealed and time finally came for his successor. DB 11 should be “the most significant Aston since the introduction of the DB9 in 2003” and that statement means something. DB11 looks incredible, with soft curves, gentle arches and elegant lines making it truly visually stunning.

And it is as stunning on the inside as it is externally. The twin-turbocharged V12 gives the car 600bhp with peak power reaching 6500rpm and a top speed of 200mph (322km/h), a true GT car. The dashboard is dominated by a 12-inch center display, with stylish gauge displays making a striking visual impression worthy of Aston Martin. Eight-speed transmission system is fully automatic, and new DB11 also uses rotary controller borrowed from Mercedes; DB11 also comes with a 400w audio system as part of standard equipment, so if you ever wanted to make a party in a car, this is the car to do it with. The price is somewhere around $212,000, so better start saving because BD11 will be available near the end of 2016.

Lamborghini Centenario

Lamborghini Centenario Geneva 2016

Lambo is back with $1.9 million Centenario, a car made in order to mark 100 years since the birth of the company founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. First of all, Centenario looks like something from Sci-Fi movies, a real hypercar design. Sharp lines and aggressive visual attitude make Centenario another brutal design vision of Lamborghini, a car that will make you admire and tremble at the same time.

And the inside is just as frightening. Middle-mounted V12 packs incredible 760bhp with a peak engine speed of 8600rpm (did someone just screamed insane?) and a top speed of “over 217mph (350km/h).” It  is capable of going from 0 to 60 in a vicious  2.8 seconds, the body is made entirely out of composite materials, and Centenario is the first Lamborghini ever to offer rear-wheel steering. And if you want to buy it, it’s already too late. Only 40 cars will be built (20 coupes and 20 roadsters) and they all have been already sold.

McLaren 570GT

McLaren 570GT Geneva 2016

The new 570GT is the sports version of the 570, it has a redesigned roof and a fancy rear glass storage door. Also, the new 570GT come with a beautiful transparent roof (part of standard equipment), and a tuned down exhaust will be a pleasant relief for people that will have the opportunity to see it (and hear it) on the open road.

The storage area is doubled in comparison to 570S making the total storage 350-litre, making the driver able to put a couple of bags and go on a road trip in his mad supercar. 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers the top speed of 206mph (331km/h), and it can go from 0 to 62 miles for 3.4 seconds. The price is pretty hefty, it costs just under $200,000 and delivery will start at the end of 2016.

Worthy Mentions

Aside from the 5 incredible works of car art we presented, there were some more interesting reveals at the newest Geneva motor show. These cars are still in concept stage, or they have some interesting feature that should drive this industry forward. Stay with us and discover what they have to offer.

Pininfarina H2 Speed concept

Pininfarina H2 Speed concept Geneva 2016

A hydrogen-powered supercar, the Pininfarina H2 Speed concept tries to be the ultimate futuristic racer. H2 Speed is another design jewel coming from the famous Italian design studio, it looks fast and menacing, it can produce the top speed of 186mph and it goes from 0 to 62mph in 3.4 seconds. The car is created in partnership with GreenGT, specialists for hydrogen-powered racing cars. H2 speed has two fuel tanks with 6.1kg fuel capacity that can be filled in three minutes.

All this speed is possible because of two powerful electric motor system called “Full Hydrogen Power”, each delivering an equivalent of 250bhp making the total output around 500bhp. The Body is made entirely out of carbon fiber and weight of the car is 1420kg. The purpose of this concept is to “explore the potential of racing technology” especially hydrogen-powered supercars.

DS E-Tense GT concept

DS E-Tense GT concept Geneva 2016

Citroen’s high-end brand, DS, went full electric with its E-Tense GT concept. The car should be able to go from 0 to 62 in 4.5 seconds, and top speed is 155mph, respectful specs for an all-electric car. Its electric motor system provides 402hp and when we talk about range, a thing very important when talking about electric powered cars, it is claimed that E-Tense GT can travel around 223 miles in urban areas and 193 miles at cruising speed before its batteries die.

There is no rear windscreen because the cameras provide the rear view, and the picture is displayed on screens placed where rearview mirrors should be. The audio system is beastly, with 640W of power divided on a nine-speaker system. All in all DS E-Tense GT concept is a presentation of the future of luxury electric-powered sports cars, that will be environment-friendly but fast and exciting at the same time.

Hyundai Ioniq

Hyundai Ioniq Geneva 2016

Hyundai showed its new model that should be the competitor to Toyota Prius. It will come in three variants, as a fully electric-powered car, a hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid. Dimensions are almost the same as the Prius, and both cars accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 11 seconds.

The hybrid version should be the first to be released. It will come with 1.6-liter engine giving 104bhp. The plug-in version also comes with a battery pack that should have enough juice to power the vehicle for 31 before they get empty and fuel engine takes the helm. The electric version will come with an 118bhp electric motor and a range of about 155 miles. All in all, a nice eco-friendly, everyday car that could get pretty successful.

Thank you for staying with us to the end and reading about all these new and exciting cars. There were many more models that we found interesting but we couldn’t present them all. If you have a favorite that you think should be added to this list let us know in the comment section bellow.
